Herring is a large and important part of the Swedish cultural heritage. Herring can also take the credit for being one of the main reasons why Swedish prosperity was built up during the 18th and 19th centuries. With its fantastic health properties and abundant presence, herring helped to turn poverty into prosperity during these centuries.
Nowadays, herring is an important and appreciated part of traditional meals, as well as a tasty and healthy everyday food at a lower cost. Here at Sweden Pelagic, we have been a quality- and sustainability-conscious supplier of herring to the canning industry in Sweden and the rest of Europe since the mid-20th century.

In autumn 2025, we inaugurated our new net washer, which was co-financed with support from the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund.
Every tub produced at Sweden Pelagic is part of a circular system in which the tub is reused in production. A tub washer is therefore essential to the operation. The investment provides us with a more environmentally friendly, less resource-intensive and more occupational health-friendly washer, with the aim of increasing the reception and processing capacity for Swedish fisheries.
