Sweden Pelagic

About us

A natural raw material with many possibilities.

Sweden Pelagic was established in 1991 in the new premises in Ellös on Orust, thus beginning its development towards large-scale and efficient herring production. Since then, we have specialised in the processing and marinating/spicing of pelagic fish – primarily herring and sprat. In our factory in Ellös on Orust, we sort, fillet, spice and pack the herring according to desired preferences. The process results in a unique product quality that lives on year after year.

Careful fishing for sustainable herring production.

For us, it is important that our operations and suppliers comply with the prevailing rules and laws established to generate sustainable fishing. The sea is our core, which is exactly why we want to work actively to preserve its natural state. To further reinforce this, we at Sweden Pelagic are certified according to FSSC, MSC and ISO14001.

For many years, we have worked closely with Chalmers University of Technology. Our work has been based on ensuring a larger proportion of our marine raw materials become food for people by finding new ways to utilise the whole fish. During our most recent collaboration, a method was developed to separate the backbones from the filleting process. The method enables mechanical separation of the meat, resulting in a finely minced herring mince.

Part of the West Coast Fish Group.

Sweden Pelagic is part of Västkustfisk Gruppen, a fishing group that covers the entire chain from the moment the fish or shellfish are caught from the sea to the finished seafood product.

The group's shared mission is clear – we are going to strengthen Swedish fishing and Swedish fish production. By making it easier for everyone to choose Swedish-produced seafood, we are creating the conditions for long-term, profitable and sustainable Swedish fishing!

The group also includes the companies Sweden Seafood in Gothenburg, Sweden Shellfish in Bua, the Gothenburg Fish Auction, Fastighetsbolaget Sjötungan, and Sjömansfrämjandet i Sverige. The group also manages Fiskets hus in Fiskhamnen as well as a number of properties in Västervik.

Västkustfisk Gruppen has its head office in Fiskets hus in the heart of Gothenburg Harbour.
